Computers are, without second thought, a useful tool that many of us
use daily. Since their invention, people
far and wide have become increasingly dependent on it. As a matter of fact, the most ancestral computer,
the abacus, is used by both Mesopotamian and Chinese empires in computing
collected taxes from their territories.
In the 17th century another invention rose. This is the Pascaline, a mechanical machine
that adds millions in a matter of seconds, which is in invented by Blaise
Pascal to help the French government calculate tax income from the Frenchmen
and its territories. After that is the
rise of the giant computers is used electronically by International Business
Machines Corporation and as time pass these giants shrink in size and turned
into tablets used to calculate numbers, send message and call someone in the
globe. Computers have found their way
into ever aspects of our life and in some cases; they make things easier for
us. But as we increasingly rely on
computers to get through the day, the question begs to be asked; is this
dependence on computers a good thing or should we be more suspicious on their
benefits?
Computers make our lives easier and
give us new ways to learn about the things we're interested in. They make it
possible to do many things from the comfort of our own home -- we can shop
online, keep in touch with our friends, online, even go to school online. They
make it easier to record and organize information and entertain us with a
nearly endless variety of games.
Medical science is fully dependent on computers. All medical operations
and are controlled by computer. Computer software is used for diagnosis of
diseases. It can be used for the examination of internal organs of the body.
Advanced computer-based systems are used to examine organs of the body. Some of
the complex surgeries can be performed with the help of computers.
Computer-assisted Surgery (CAS) is a fast-advancing field in medicine, which
combines medical expertise with computer intelligence to give faster and more
accurate results in surgical procedures. In CAS, a model of the patient is
created, and then analyzed prior to surgery. The surgical procedure is
simulated on the virtual image of the patient. The surgery can then be performed
by a surgical robot, as programmed by a medical professional or the robot may
only assist doctors while they do the actual surgery. In both cases, computer
intelligence is at work, thus underlining the uses of computers in medicine.
The modern communication system is fully based on computers. We can’t think of a communication system
without computers. Since communication has very important role in society as
well as organization and enterprises it is necessary that we should have an
accurate and fast method for communication. Here we need computers to provide
fast and efficiency manner for communication.
Now we have mobile phones, e-mails, fax and other many methods for
providing good way to communicate each other which cannot develop and work
without computers. Let us take the
working of an organization. The communication between each level between two or
more organizations is carrying through computers. If there is no computers it
should cause big wastage of time may cause wastage of data and so many other
things. Likewise computer based
communication is necessary at every field whether it is hospitals or industry
or government. Without computers there may be large wastage of time, money and
resources which may cause great
damages.
Hence
computer is necessary in communication and without that it is impossible to
provide a best way that fulfills the present requirements.
Today, we are able to chat and see anyone from anywhere of the world.
So, the more we will use computer, the easier will be our life and our science
and technology will be more developed.
Despite the many benefits of computers, there are also a number of
arguments against them, one of which is the negative effect some believe they
are having on children's education. Computers are a threat to our health. Long-term exposure to radiation increases the
risk of all forms of cancer, tumors, blood disorders, miscarriage, headaches,
insomnia, anxiety, aging of the skin, skin burn, etc. Radiation exposure over
time can cause skin burn, dry wrinkled skin and photo aging. This skin damage
is identical to sun damage and causes the same health problems. Many electronic
products that we use on a daily basis expose us to harmful radiation. A television, microwave oven, cellular phone
and computer are examples of products that emit radiation. Computer radiation is most harmful to skin
health when sitting directly in front of the computer for long periods of time
with our face absorbing the radiation. Computer
radiation can make you feel sick and burn your skin. Most people are not aware
of this, and continue to suffer with ill health they have no explanation for.
They do not realize sometimes ill health is related to computer use. Using a laptop or LCD does not exclude you
from the negative health affects of computer radiation. All computer monitors
emit low levels of radiation. Laptops and LCD monitors emit less radiation than
the old-fashioned CRT monitors. However, all monitors emit enough radiation
that affects your health and appearance.
In the past few years, many teachers
have taken to shuffling their students off to a computer to type out short,
quick assignments that could easily be written out by hand. While this isn't
much of an issue for older students, it is an issue for the younger students
who are just learning to read and write.
Regardless of how much we're coming to rely on computers, printing and handwriting
are a necessary skill to have. But typing out assignments has affection more
than just the ability to print -- it can also negatively impact on their
spelling and grammar. While most programs now have spell- and grammar-check, they
are not infallible; they cannot differentiate between homonyms and will often suggest
corrections that are not, in fact, correct. Furthermore, information is often more
easily and accurately remembered when children have to spend a little time writing
it out by hand, rather than a few quick minutes typing away at a keyboard. Another
case against computers crops up when a person's interest in computers goes too
far and becomes an obsession. However, it's still important to maintain a life
outside of the cyber world; a life spent attached to a computer screen isn't
areal life. When a computer becomes the central point of a person's life, they undergo
a change in behavior; they become lazy and develop anti-social tendencies, and,
in some severe cases, simply cannot function without a computer. It's a common thing to see with children who
have been allowed to spend too much time on the computer, watching movies, or
playing video games: when it comes time to walk away, they throw temper
tantrums. But it's not just a matter of behavioral changes -- when a person
can't tear themselves away from the screen long enough to take part in any
other activity, it can take a toll on their comfort and health. They may
experience weight gain, strained eyes, and headaches, among other unpleasant
side-effects. However, it can also be argued that this is not the fault of the
computer, but rather the fault of the person. Perhaps the most convincing
argument, however, is the issue of safety. Aside from the issue of sharing
personal information such as full names and addresses, there is also the bigger
issue of stolen personal information. As our dependence on computers grows, so
does our comfort level with them, and we are more likely to save personal
information to our computer. While it would be nice to think that it is always
perfectly safe to do so, the fact is that there are people who have any number
of ways to gain access to your personal files, and therefore, any personal information
stored on your computer. Even if you don't knowingly keep any personal
information on your computer, if you bank or shop online at all, it's possible
for someone who knows what they're doing to gain access to delicate financial
information.
In this computer era, there must be people that are too dependent on computer.
But, we should not be too much dependent on computers as it causes threats for
human being. We have minds that function
well and bodies that move efficiently.
Minds and bodies given by God and will return to God. Computers are not the “the Savior” that save
as from despair and destruction. We can
never rely on computers, so we must learn how to rely to ourselves and to Him.
